Spring is almost here!!!

March 15, 2019

We had a taste of Spring with a few warm, mild days on the water. Vicente Cosio and Marco Garcia put in the Dottie BII for the first time this season and brought in a really nice yellowtail.

Hotel Buena Vista Beach Resort guest Frank Ramirez visiting from near Houston Texas spent a couple nice days fishing aboard the Alegria landing Dorado and white Bonita along with a dozen or so Skipjacks.

Hotel Buena Vista Beach Resort family members Axel and Felipe Valdez enjoyed the week at the Fred Hall Sportsman Show in Long Beach California. The brothers agreed it was great to see so many past and future Hotel Buena Vista Beach Resort clients and industry associates. This is the premiere event for west coast anglers and was the perfect opportunity for Felipe to promote his new surf fishing guide service.

Hotel Buena Vista’s fleet crew is ready to show off the “Liliana”, one of their 29 ft. Phoenix cruisers, powered with twin 330hp Cummins turbo diesel engine’s. Crew members Captain Marco Yepiz and deck hand Daniel Sandez were both born in Baja California Sur and have a long history in the sport fishing industry.  Marco started his career as a deck hand in Punta Colorada, but it wasn’t until he worked with well-known Captain Adrian Montaño aboard El Robalo that he honed his trade. Now with 32 years of experience, Marco has become one of the most efficient captains in the area. Daniel was born in La Ribera BCS where his whole family has worked in the fishing industry as commercial or sport fishermen. Before joining our crew, Daniel worked as a deck hand Cabo. Together they make a great team.

The Liliana has participated in many area competitions, including the Bisbee East Cape, the Bisbee Los Cabos and also the El Debate in Sinaloa Mexico. Most recently they won last year’s Dia del Marino Tournament which was a qualifier for the State Final Tournament. They took first place at the “Rooster Fish” Tournament and also first at the Aero California Tournament.

The Liliana crew landed the biggest yellow fin tuna of the fleet last season weighing in at 180lbs.
