Buena Vista Beach Resort anglers fished in and out of the rain this past week. Some days, when it rained on land, there was very little rain on the water. Our guests said the bite got better with the rain for dorado and was refreshing. They released sails and striped marlin, boated limits of dorado (2 each) and released many more. The tuna came and went, and moved in and out, as evidenced by the tournament this past weekend. None could make the minimum weight for the tuna division of 30 pounds.
So far this week….Capt. Vicente said there are some strong currents out there and one day you could be onto the fish, come back the next and they were gone. Tuesday it was all about the canyons off Los Farrilles, where all you needed was some ballyhoo. Wednesday, things got tough as the currents picked back up.
The big news for the resort was my brother Esual’s win at the tournament. The Cabo Rivera team onboard the Dottie B II won the event with their 42.5-pound dorado. He said he was fishing just 5 miles of Los Frailes and caught it on a skipjack. We are all very proud of them.
