10-5 to 10-12
Grant Oepkes’ crew started us off last week on the ECLIPSE with 5 dorado and 4 tuna, while others released some sailfish; but high boat for the day was the DOTTIE BII, with the Thomas Holt group in terms of variety. They scored 7 dorado, 2 pargo, 1 wahoo and 1 bota.
Anglers throughout the week continued to catch and release sails and striped marlin as well as some nice roosterfish. Headed to the freezer, besides the tuna and dorado, were some nice pargo and amberjack. The bite seemed to hit its stride by Thursday, when 57 dorado, 7 striped marlin (released), 11 tuna and 1 amberjack came to the docks. Every boat that day got into the dorado, except the ECLIPSE.
Local angler Tom Kolasinski (Beerman) was prefishing for a tuna tournament on the ECLIPSE with Alex and Carlos offshore with cedar plugs and came up with 11of them fishing offshore. Tom shared an interesting three day report with us that included his tourney day. Check out the next post to read his story. Want to share your report, too? Just send your photos, links to your YouTube or report to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll add them too!
Friday, it was more like Victory at Sea and the bite backed off some thanks to our first north winds for the season, which came early this year. Never-the-less; 10 boats went out that day; these guys and gals are no slouches, no one got skunked and they all came back with smiles.
A total of 125 dorado hit the decks, 15 sails and 18 striped marlin were released, as were 11 roosters, 17 tuna came in including one 70 pounder, 30 amberjack, 2 pargo and 1 wahoo this past week. Contributing to the numbers were long-time friends David Dial and his wife as well as Ken Reinboth. Reinboth came down to fly fish off our super panga MOSCA with Victor, the ALEGRIA with Juan and Victor and the ECLIPSE with Alex and Carlos – man did he rake up the numbers! Being mostly a release kind of guy, if my count is right, he had 16 dodos, 5 roosters, 3 sails, 2 striped marlin and 19 amberjack by the weekend!
I have more photos, but after two days of trying to get them to load….I give up!
Also, while all of this was going on last week, we had Executive Producer, show host and world angler, Jimmy Nelson and his film crew from the Extreme Fishing Adventures fishing and diving with us for three days and a wedding – busy week!
